BPA 217 - Small Business Accounting

3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term.
Use Quickbooks® software (cloud-based) for the study of computerized accounting systems with emphasis on the application of accounting theory and practice. Complete projects for both service and merchandising-based entities, including creating a company, accounting for balance sheet accounts, adjusting accounts, reconciling bank accounts and closing the accounting cycle. Utilize a personal computer for accessing, updating, working with, saving, and sharing electronic files.

Prerequisite(s): Eligibility for ENG 101 /ENG 101A  or permission of department chair.

Note: Typically offered at MC and OL; fall, spring, and summer terms.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of file management processes for a computerized accounting system.
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in analyzing source documents and the subsequent recording of accounting transactions.
  3. Create and produce financial reports for service and merchandising-based businesses.
  4. Create and produce payroll reports and perform related payroll functions using source documents.
