BPA 171 - Principles of Supervision3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. Explore the role and responsibilities of a successful supervisor in today’s diverse workplace. Topics include planning, motivation, decision-making, conflict resolution, communicating effectively, discipline and counseling, and selecting, training and appraising employees.
Note: Typically offered OL; fall, spring, and summer terms.
Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe the basic skills needed of a supervisor.
- Examine the challenges facing the modern supervisor.
- Explain the importance of planning, delegating and decision making.
- Explain theories of motivation, methods of conflict resolution and discipline techniques.
- Describe the supervisor’s role in the employee selection and development process.
