BPA 246 - Business Operations and Logistics3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. Formerly BPA 246/ESI 246 -Entrepreneurship:Small Business Operations and Logistics
Develop skills and knowledge required of small business managers for the practical application of operations and logistics concepts. Analyze the management of the physical flows of products to include transportation management, warehousing, materials handling, inventory management and order fulfillment.
Note: Students are encouraged to take BPA 111 before enrolling in this course.
Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify the four basic production and service process types.
- Explain the link between Total Quality Management and Process Control in manufacturing based operations.
- Apply product-service bundle design and implementation strategies to create an operational system suitable for manufacturing based requirements.
- Identify manufacturing based facility layout designs related to fixed-position, product, process, cellular, and hybrid layout types while applying an efficient and effective facility layout.
- Define manufacturing job designs including components of social responsibility, task accomplishment time and procedures, profit chain model metrics, and new job design.
- Create a master schedule that addresses capacity planning, order quantities, and demand and lead times.
- Apply detailed scheduling processes to a manufacturing model, including master schedules, JIT inventory management systems, material planning considerations, automation, and e-commerce.
- Explain customer fulfillment strategies in relationship to vendors and customers through forecasting, demand planning, partnerships, and collaboration.
- Explain how the physical flow of goods interacts with the manufacturing process, including new product introduction, order fulfillment, and forward and reverse logistics models.
- Describe transportation services as it relates to the manufacturing process.
- Explain how outsourcing impacts the global market.
