CTA 115 - Personal Computer Database Management Systems

4 credit hours - Four hours of lecture and directed laboratory weekly; one term.
Formerly CSI 122 - Personal Computer Database Management Systems

Use Microsoft Access database management application software used on personal computers to study and manipulate data. Learn database design and implementation of object files such as file creation and setup, query processing, report generation and program creation. Use multiple files, indexing and database search, and record retrieval to solve practical problems through hands-on lab. This course prepares students to take the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Access 2016 industry certification exam (extra fee).

Note: Users with no prior software applications experience are encouraged to take one of the following before taking this course: CTA 100  or CTP 103 . Typically offered MC, GB, and OL; fall and spring terms.

Course Outcomes:
  • Build a database and table relationships in Microsoft Access.
  • Create and maintain matabase Select, Action, and Advanced queries.
  • Create basic and customized database forms.
  • Create basic and customized database reports
  • Share, integrate, and analyze data using Access with other programs.
  • Develop macros to automate tasks within a database.
  • Write accurate Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) code for Access.
  • Develop a secured database using Access.
