CTS 207 - Digital Forensics 2

4 credit hours - Four hours of lecture and directed laboratory weekly; one term.
Formerly CSI 208 - Cyber Forensics 2

Practice digital forensics response and examination techniques. Recover and analyze digital evidence using industry standard commercial and open source tools. Evaluate operating systems and file systems to locate and analyze evidence using various Windows, Linux and Mac command line and GUI tools. Use investigation results to develop comprehensive forensic reports. Course fee $60.

Prerequisite(s): CTS 170  or CJS 170 .

Course Outcomes:
 

 

1. Plan and execute a digital forensics response in a large-scale evidence environment.

2. Identify appropriate acquisition tools and techniques based upon a given response environment.

3. Examine the functionality of operating systems and file systems as related to data storage and digital evidence.

4. Identify and recover data of potential interest to a forensic investigation.

5. Prepare a presentation of forensic findings.
