DAN 100 - Dance History3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. This course meets the Arts & Humanities General Education Requirement. This course meets the Diversity Requirement.
Study dance history from the Renaissance through the mid 20th century. Explore the roots of ballet, modern and jazz dance. Discover how dance was used as a means of communication, performance, and how culture and society influenced movement.
Note: Typically offered at MC and OL; fall and spring terms.
Course Outcomes:
- Identify and research pioneers of early ballet, modern and jazz dance.
- Define the origins and purpose of ballet, modern and jazz dance.
- Identify the origins of ballet terminology.
- Explain how these dance forms came to America.
- Explain the contributions of the early dance pioneers.
