DAN 212 - Intermediate Ballet 2

2 credit hours - One hour of lecture and two hours of studio weekly; one term.
Provides continued study of classical ballet technique with emphasis on performance presentation and challenging technical combinations. Designed to develop strength and accuracy, musicality and flexibility. May be repeated once for a total of four credit hours.

Prerequisite(s): DAN 211  or permission of department chair.

Note: Typically offered at MC; fall and spring terms.

    • Explain the origins of ballet (countries).
    • Explain the original purpose of ballet.
    • Articulate the “key” players in the promotion of ballet among royalty.
    • Identify the reason for turn out in ballet.
    • Identify why the reason for costume modifications in ballet.
    • Identify current, world-renowned ballet dancers.
  • Describe ballet terminology.
    • Recognize intermediate ballet terms.
    • Define intermediate level ballet terms.
  • Perform codified ballet movements.
    • Demonstrate requested intermediate level ballet movements in small groups.
