CTA 105 - Theory and Troubleshooting Microcomputers 1

3 credit hours - Two hours of lecture and two hours of laboratory weekly; one term.
Formerly CTS 103 - Theory and Troubleshooting Microcomputers 1

Examine the function and operation of computer systems and mobile devices. Assemble, maintain, and repair computer systems. Learn how systems are configured, modified, and expanded. Investigate, analyze, and correct common hardware problems. 

Note: This course addresses the material of the CompTIA A+ exam objectives. It is highly recommended that students who do not have a working knowledge of computers complete CTA 100  before enrolling in CTA 105. Typically offered OL; fall and spring terms.

Course Outcomes:
1.   Identify and describe hardware components and peripheral
      devices used in computer systems.

2.   Demonstrate the ability to install components such as
      CPUs, storage devices, and a power supply.

3.   Describe characteristics of mobile devices, their
      features and accessories.

4.   Explain common cabling, protocols, and standards used in
      wired and wireless networks.

5.   Demonstrate hardware and network troubleshooting
      techniques.

6.   Develop the skills to select, build, and modify personal
      computers and identify comparable mobile device hardware.
