EGR 268 - Thermodynamics3 credit hours - Three hours of lecture weekly; one term. Formerly EGR 221 - Thermodynamics
Study properties of gases and vapors. Solve problems applying the first and second laws of thermodynamics. Apply thermodynamic principles in the analysis of engineering systems such as engines, refrigeration and power cycles, and psychrometrics.
Prerequisite(s): CHE 111 , MAT 192 and PHY 212 .
Course Outcomes:
- Determine the thermodynamic properties for any ideal gas or pure substance.
- Analyze energy and mass transfers for steady and transient systems.
- Apply the first law of thermodynamics to closed systems and control volumes.
- Apply the second law of thermodynamics to analyze engineering systems.
- Perform thermodynamic analyses of engineering systems such as compressors, turbines, pumps, heat engine cycles, and refrigeration cycles, using energy, materials, and entropy relations.
