GSS 217 - Women of the Western World

3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term.
This course meets the Diversity Requirement.

Study and analyze women’s experiences, social roles and contributions to the development of Western society from ancient times to the 21st century.

Prerequisite(s): Eligibility for ENG 101 /ENG 101A .

Course Outcomes:

acquire a basic knowledge of human sexuality and the interaction of physiological, psychological and sociocultural processes on sexuality and behavior across the lifespan;
encourage critical analysis and synthesis of both the empirical literature and personal views and experiences on sexuality in the context of current social and cultural influences;
examine how diverse sexual belief systems created by race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexual orientation, age, and religion influence the expression of human sexuality in the individual, families, intimate relationships, and societies;
demonstrate an understanding of all the major theoretical concepts in psychology of sexuality and how they are used to describe or understand human behavior;
gain a better appreciation for the diversity of sexual practices and opinions;
increase ability to communicate openly and effectively about issues related to human sexuality to gain a better understanding of self and others.
