GEO 100 - Introduction to Geography

3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term.
This course meets the Social and Behavioral Sciences General Education Requirement.

Focus on the geographer’s view of the interaction of people with their physical and human environments.

Prerequisite(s): Eligibility for ENG 101 /ENG 101A .

Note: Typically offered at MC and OL; all terms.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Describe basic concepts of geography, such as location, regions, scale, spatial interaction, and ecological relationships.
  2. Evaluate the main visual tools of geography.
  3. Discuss landform forces as a main element of physical geography.
  4. Describe weather and climate as main elements of physical geography.
  5. Discuss the main elements of human geography, including population, culture, economic geography, political geography, and urban geography.
  6. Evaluate the process of spatial interaction.
  7. Discuss types of resources, energy principles, energy use, and examples of pollution.
  8. Evaluate human impacts on the environment.
