GEO 100 - Introduction to Geography3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. This course meets the Social and Behavioral Sciences General Education Requirement.
Focus on the geographer’s view of the interaction of people with their physical and human environments.
Prerequisite(s): Eligibility for ENG 101 /ENG 101A .
Note: Typically offered at MC and OL; all terms.
Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe basic concepts of geography, such as location, regions, scale, spatial interaction, and ecological relationships.
- Evaluate the main visual tools of geography.
- Discuss landform forces as a main element of physical geography.
- Describe weather and climate as main elements of physical geography.
- Discuss the main elements of human geography, including population, culture, economic geography, political geography, and urban geography.
- Evaluate the process of spatial interaction.
- Discuss types of resources, energy principles, energy use, and examples of pollution.
- Evaluate human impacts on the environment.
