HEA 150 - Advanced First Aid, CPR and AED3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. Formerly First Aid and Safety- CPR
This course meets the Wellness Requirement.
Examine the appropriate intervention skills to respond to emergencies such as recognition, access, assessment and management until more advanced personnel arrives. Identify and successfully demonstrate the components of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic defibrillator device (AED) and advanced first aid by a first responder. Successful completion of the course prepares students to take the Red Cross certification exam. Lab fee $35.
Note: Credit is not given for both EMT 104 and HEA 150. Typically offered at MC; all terms.
Course Outcomes:
- Define emergency care terminology commonly used in first aid, CPR and AED.
- Describe roles and responsibilities of a first responder.
- Identify practices that promote wellness, safety and prevention of conditions or events requiring the use of first aid, CPR and AED techniques.
- Recognize the signs and symptoms of various illnesses and injuries that require CPR/AED and advanced first aid.
- Describe how to properly assess and provide emergency care for victims of trauma and sudden illness including necessary communication skills.
- Describe and successfully demonstrate intervention skills such as CPR/AED, airway maintenance, bleeding control, immobilization and personal protection.
