HIT 112 - Healthcare Statistics and Quality/Performance Improvement

4 credit hours - Four hours weekly; one term.
Learn statistical computation at the introductory level for use in health information management departments. Learn how to use statistics to make better business decisions, track activities in the healthcare facility and analyze data. Learn how to identify quality issues in a healthcare setting and be able to implement performance improvement programs. Decrease risk exposure to the healthcare facility by learning to aggregate and analyze data specific to an issue. Identify trends that demonstrate quality, safety and effectiveness of healthcare.

Prerequisite(s): General education mathematics and HIT 111  (with a C or better).

Course Outcomes:

  • Demonstrate the ability to compute and describe healthcare statistics
  • Demonstrate the ability to calculate rates, ratios, percentages, census and length of stay for healthcare
  • Demonstrate the ability to undertsand the interrelatedness of healthcare statistics and research
  • Students will apply statistics to review and study healthcare trends
  • Students will understand the foundation, fundamentals and core principals of Quality Management and Performance Improvement
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to apply Quality Improvement tools to assess continuum of care
  • Students will apply Quality Improvement and Performance Improvement activities
