HUM 101 - Introduction to Fine Arts3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. This course meets the Arts & Humanities General Education Requirement.
Study of the nature of visual, performing and literary arts and of changing roles of art, artist and audience. Slides, videotapes, films and live performances supplement reading.
Prerequisite(s): Eligibility for ENG 101 /ENG 101A .
Note: Typically offered MC and OL; fall and spring terms.
Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Describe orally and in writing the purposes and functions of art in Western and non-Western cultures and in traditional and modern cultures;
2. Describe orally and in writing the formal elements of the various spatial, temporal, and performing arts media;
3. Analyze, interpret and evaluate works of art as aesthetic experience and intellectual expression and to articulate those responses orally and in writing;
4. Describe orally and in writing various theories of creativity.
