NUR 103 - Advanced Patient Care Technician6 credit hours - 45 hours of lecture, 30 hours of college laboratory and 60 hours of clinical practice; one term. Practice advanced skills and obtain the clinical experience necessary to work as an advanced-level technician in area hospitals. Lab fee $150.
Prerequisite(s): Acceptance into the Advanced Patient Care Technician program.
Course Outcomes: - Describe the roles, responsibilities and legal/ethical issues related to the scope of practice of the advanced patient care technician I related to the policy and procedures of the acute care agency and Anne Arundel Community College
- Completely and safely perform basic and advanced skills required by the Board of Nursing for an advanced certified nursing assistant of patients in acute care facilities.
- Accurately report and document essential information on patient’s conditions and status of care in a timely manner.
- Establish and maintain appropriate communication using therapeutic communication techniques with patients, peers, family members, staff and nursing faculty.
- Prioritize and implement patient care in an organized and efficient manner.
- Care for patients throughout the life span.
- Apply the principles of medical and surgical asepsis when administering patient care.
