PHS 111 - History of Science3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. This course meets the Biological and Physical Sciences General Education Requirement.
Study the development of science and technology, from ancient times to the present, and discuss the effects of scientific developments on political and social affairs. The application of the scientific method in the development of the basic concepts of modern science is stressed, as are the crucial observations and experiments which led to those concepts.
Prerequisite(s): Eligibility for ENG 101 /ENG 101A .
Note: This course does not satisfy the curricular requirements for a laboratory science course. Typically offered at MC and OL; fall, spring, and summer terms.
Course Outcomes:
- Examine the development of science and technology from ancient times to the 21st century.
- Analyze the effects of political and social affairs on the development of science and technology.
- Evaluate the development of the scientific method from ancient times to the 21st century.
- Apply the scientific method in the development of the basic concepts of modern science.
- Discuss the crucial observations and experiments that led to the basic concepts of modern science.
