PTA 207 - Clinical Practice 4

4 credit hours - 280 hours of clinical practice; one term.
A supervised full-time clinical experience in a selected physical therapy setting for application of new and previously learned clinical skills and procedures. Includes implementation of management skills and teaching techniques. Clinical fee $135.

Prerequisite(s): PTA 204  and PTA 206 .

Corequisite(s): PTA 205 .

Note: A grade of C or better in each physical therapist assistant course is required to progress in PTA 207. Typically offered OF; spring term.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

1. Adhere to ethical and legal standards in the practice of limited physical therapy under the direction and supervision of the physical therapist.

2. Demonstrate ongoing competence in the delivery of selected interventions in a safe and effective manner under the direction and supervision of the physical therapist consistent with the standards of practice of the profession.

3. Identify emergency response processes within the clinical site.

4. Apply problem solving skills to perform data collection, conduct tests and measures, and implement selected interventions within the plan of care developed by the physical therapist. 

5. Demonstrate competence with documentation according to standards of practice and appropriate to the clinical setting.

6. Establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, clinical instructors, supervising physical therapists, health care team members, patients’ family members, and support personnel.

7. Provide psychosocial support to patients and/or families.

8. Incorporate awareness of diversity, equity, inclusion and access when communicating with clinical instructors, physical therapists, patients/clients, family members, caregivers, and health care personnel.

9. Develop organizational skills relating to clinical practice and appropriate to the level of learning.
