RAD 112 - Clinical Radiography 15 credit hours - 16 hours of clinical laboratory weekly; one term. Perform fundamental radiologic procedures of the chest, abdomen, and extremities to include shoulder and pelvis in a supervised clinical setting while practicing infection control, assessment skills, body mechanics, radiation safety, patient education and discharge instructions. Clinical fee $175.
Prerequisite(s): Acceptance to the Radiologic Technology Program.
Corequisite(s): RAD 110 and RAD 111 .
Note: Typically offered OF; fall term.
Course Outcomes:
- Demonstrate effective patient care including transfer of patients, history taking skills, radiation protection, and other entry-level skills.
- Orient to the radiologic technology department in safety procedures and use of specific imaging equipment.
- Obtain diagnostic images on routine and special projections of the chest, abdomen, upper/lower extremities, shoulder/pelvic girdles, spine, bony thorax, contrast exams, head, bedside exams, operating room, and shock trauma procedures by following departmental protocols.
- Apply radiation safety practices to ensure protection of the patient, personnel and self.
- Demonstrate advanced problem-solving, critical thinking, and DEIA related skills in patient care management scenarios to obtain diagnostic images.
- Define and demonstrate basic concepts of health information management including medical terminology and demonstrating understanding of computer usage, security and ethics.
