RAD 212 - Clinical Radiography 3

6 credit hours - 32 hours of clinical laboratory weekly; one term.
Demonstrate continued competence of previously learned radiologic procedures in a supervised clinical setting to include advanced specialized fluoroscopic exams and atypical orthopedic procedures. Apply advanced patient management techniques that include ECG analysis, vital signs, oxygen and venipuncture skills to enhance the student radiographers’ patient care management skills in the clinical setting. Clinical fee $175.

Prerequisite(s): RAD 121 , RAD 122 , and RAD 123  with grades of C or better.

Corequisite(s): RAD 211

Note: Typically offered OF; summer term.

Course Outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate effective patient care including transfer of patients, history taking skills, radiation protection, and other introductory level skills.
  2. Orient to the radiologic technology department in safety procedures and use of specific imaging equipment.
  3. Follow department protocols for obtaining diagnostic images on routine and special projections of the chest, abdomen, upper/lower extremities, shoulder/pelvic girdles, spine, bony thorax, contrast exams, head, bedside exams, operating room, and shock trauma procedures.
  4. Apply radiation safety practices to ensure protection of the patient, personnel and self.

5. Demonstrate problem-solving/critical thinking skills and DEIA skills in patient care management scenarios to obtain diagnostic images with a special concentration trauma patients.
