THA 132 - Acting 1

3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term.
This course meets the Arts & Humanities General Education Requirement. 

Study the acting process through exercises, theatre games and performance. Explore and gain proficiency in the Stanislavski method of acting. Learn character analysis and rehearsal techniques in preparation for required in-class presentation of short scenes from modern play scripts. Lab fee $15.

Note: Typically offered at MC; fall and spring terms.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Condition the body and voice for performance with relaxation, strength, and flexibility.

2. Use exercises to increase sensory awareness, observation and imagination.

3. Prepare a characterization using improvisation techniques.

4. Analyze a character in a published play script.

5. Plan, prepare, and perform a memorized monologue from a play script in character. Work with a scene partner(s) to present a duo and, or a small group scene.

6. Critically analyze his/her work and the performance of others.
