THA 185 - Children’s Theater Ensemble

1 credit hour - Three hours weekly; one term.
Rehearsal and performance of dramatic literature aimed at youth audiences. Programs are prepared for both on and off-campus presentations. Students must audition or interview for slots in class during the first week of the term in which they desire to enroll. Course may be repeated a total of two credit hours.

Course Outcomes:

  • Determine necessary tasks in order to produce a touring ensemble.
    • Acquire the script/reading used for the production
    • Access the needs of the play
    • Access the restrictions of the format
  • Adapt the script and technical elements to fit the restrictions of touring
    • Ascertain the necessity of each item
    • Determine which elements can be reduced/removed
    • Prioritize the order for construction
  • Construct the technical elements for the show
    • Build scenic pieces
  • Assemble the show and rehearse
    • Assemble the technical elements
    • Rehearse the play with technical elements
  • Interact with the audience
    • Perform the show in schools
    • Discuss play with audience
    • Evaluate the play with the audience
  • Evaluate the sucess of the production
    • Draw conclusions about sucess/failure of each show
    • Accept responsibility for successes/failures
    • Apply lessons learned
