JPN 211 - Intermediate Japanese 13 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. Build on knowledge acquired in JPN 112 to expand conversational and written skills. Learn 90 new kanji characters.
Prerequisite(s): JPN 112 or four years of high school Japanese or permission of department chair.
Note: Not for native speakers. Typically offered at MC and OL; fall and spring terms.
Course Outcomes:
- Identify the main idea and key information in short, straightforward written and spoken conversations and informational and fictional texts.
- Request and provide information in conversations on familiar topics by creating simple sentences and asking appropriate follow-up questions.
- Present personal information about my life, activities, and events, using simple sentences through spoken and written language.
- Combine a variety of grammar structures and vocabulary to respond to a range of low intermediate-level writing and speaking prompts using previous knowledge and 90 new kanji characters.
- Formulate comparisons between the cultural products, practices, and perspectives of Japanese culture and those of my own.
