JPN 211 - Intermediate Japanese 1

3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term.
Build on knowledge acquired in JPN 112  to expand conversational and written skills. Learn 90 new kanji characters.

Prerequisite(s): JPN 112  or four years of high school Japanese or permission of department chair.

Note: Not for native speakers. Typically offered at MC and OL; fall and spring terms.

Course Outcomes:
 

  1. Identify the main idea and key information in short, straightforward written and spoken conversations and informational and fictional texts.
  2. Request and provide information in conversations on familiar topics by creating simple sentences and asking appropriate follow-up questions.
  3. Present personal information about my life, activities, and events, using simple sentences through spoken and written language.
  4. Combine a variety of grammar structures and vocabulary to respond to a range of low intermediate-level writing and speaking prompts using previous knowledge and 90 new kanji characters.
  5. Formulate comparisons between the cultural products, practices, and perspectives of Japanese culture and those of my own.
