SOC 111H - Introduction to Sociology - Honors

3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term.
This is an honors course.

This course meets the Social & Behavioral Sciences General Education Requirement. This course meets the Diversity Requirement.

Learn sociological principles and perspectives as a way of understanding everyday social life. Study meanings and functions of various roles in historical and contemporary societies. Evaluate causes, consequences and comparisons of social hierarchies.

Prerequisite(s): Eligibility for Honors courses and ENG 101 /ENG 101A .

Crosslisted: Also offered as SOC 111 ; credit is not given for both SOC 111H and SOC 111 .

Note: Complete and present an honors capstone research project that extends beyond the classroom. Typically offered at MC, AM, GB, and OL; all terms.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Apply a sociological scientific approach to understanding human social behavior
Evaluate the methodology, results and conclusions of social research
Explain the organization of society, and the interrelationship of its institutions and social groups
Recognize the issues of diversity arising in a complex society
