FRE 227 - Intermediate Francophone Civilization and Culture

3 credit hours - Three hours lecture weekly; one term.
Study the culture and civilization of the French-speaking (Francophone) world beyond France. Develop reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.Taught in French.

Prerequisite(s): FRE 212  or four years of high school French or permission of department chair.

Note: Not for native speakers.

Course Outcomes:
  • Identify the early Modern and Modern history of the Francophone (French-speaking) world
  • Describe the geography of the Francophone world
  • Analyze Francophone societies and politics in the 20th and 21st centuries
  • Compare aspects of the fine arts in the Francophone world

  • Discuss popular culture and the media in the Francophone world
  • Speak, listen to, read and write standard French
