BPA 190 - Organizational Behavior3 credit hours - Three hours lecture weekly; one term. Examine many of the basic principles of human behavior that effective managers use when managing individuals and groups in a variety of organizations. Topics include communications, motivation, group dynamics, leadership, power, organizational design and development, and organizational culture. Conceptual frameworks, case studies, and skill-oriented activities are applied to each topic and intended to help students acquire the skills that managers need to improve organizational relationships and performance.
Note: Typically offered OL; fall and spring terms.
Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- List and explain basic organizational behavior principles and analyze how these principles influence behavior in the workplace.
- Examine individual behavior in the workplace as influenced by personality, values, perception, and motivation.
- Describe elements of group behavior including group dynamics, communication, leadership, power and politics, and conflict and negotiation.
- Demonstrate how application of organizational behavior (OB) frameworks, tools, and concepts can enhance individual, group, and organizational effectiveness.
- Reflect on personal beliefs, assumptions and behaviors with respect to how individuals, groups and organizations act in order to expand your approaches and increase your own organizational effectiveness.
