MDA 113H - Medical Terminology3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. This is an honors course.
Learn medical terminology, including prefixes, suffixes, word roots and medical abbreviations. Utilize concepts presented in a body systems approach that emphasizes key anatomical and physiological terms. Additional topics include pathology, diagnostic procedures, and treatment modalities.
Prerequisite(s): Eligibility for Honors courses and eligibility for ENG 101 /ENG 101A .

Course Outcomes: CAAHEP Competency Outcomes

- Describe body planes, directional terms, quadrants, body cavities
- List major organs in each body system
- Identify the anatomical location of major organs in each body system
- Compare structure and function of the human body across the life span
- Describe the normal function of each body system
- Identify common pathology related to each body system including: signs, symptoms, etiology
- Analyze pathology for each body system including:diagnostic measures, treatment modalities
- Identify classifications of medications including indications for use
- Define coaching a patient as it relates to health maintenance, disease prevention, compliance with treatment plan, community resources, and adaptations relevant to individual patient needs
- Recognize elements of fundamental writing skills
- Identify medical terms labeling the word parts
