UAS 111 - Introduction to Drone Technology

3 credit hours - Three hours lecture weekly; one term.
This course meets the Technology Requirement.

Learn information technology concepts and skills that are fundamental to social, personal, business, and academic environments through the study of Drone Technology. Learn about the command and control networks, hardware, software, security, privacy, ethics, and emerging technologies as they apply to the workforce demands for small uncrewed aircraft systems (sUAS). Learn basic drone flying skills, the rules for recreational drone flying and the required knowledge to become a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Part 107 Certified Drone Pilot. Lab fee $20.

Prerequisite(s): Eligibility for ENG 101 /ENG 101A .

Note: Typically offered MC; fall and spring terms.

Course Outcomes:
  1. Use technology and communication tools to access, manage and present information in collaboration with others in order to participate effectively in society.
  2. Select and use the most appropriate UAS software tools for an assigned task.
  3. Solve problems with UAS hardware and software tools.
  4. Evaluate and use both desktop and mobile UAS applications.
  5. Identify information security threats and weaknesses and apply appropriate security measures.
  6. Identify legal and ethical uses of technology.
