MUS 147 - Piano Pedagogy

3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term.
Designed to present a sound foundation for the beginning piano teacher and to provide enrichment for more experienced teachers through an analysis of elements involved in advancing levels of piano proficiency and a survey of current teaching materials.

Prerequisite(s): MUS 142  or permission of department chair.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Develop piano training skills for children and adults.
  2. Explore beginning, intermediate, and advance piano techniques.
  3. Examine standard and auxiliary teaching methods.
  4. Explore student development/progression.
  5. Explore selected repertoire for beginning, intermediate, and advance students.
