PSY 250 - Statistics in Social and Behavioral Sciences

3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term.
Develop statistical literacy needed to think critically about quantitative information in everyday life and the social sciences. Apply core statistical methods used in the social and behavioral sciences, including analysis of variance, correlation, regression, and non-parametric techniques. Interpret data, conduct basic statistical analyses, and communicate results clearly.

Prerequisite(s): MAT 135  or MAT 137  and either PSY 111  or SOC 111 .

Crosslisted: Also offered as SOC 250 ; credit is not given for both PSY 250 and SOC 250 .

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Calculate and interpret common descriptive and inferential statistics used in the social and behavioral sciences.
  2. Identify appropriate statistical analyses for testing research hypotheses.
  3. Ask the necessary questions to interpret and form conclusions based on data.
  4. Explore the role of ethics in behavioral research and learn to responsibly use and interpret descriptive and inferential statistics.
  5. Utilize statistical software to conduct basic analyses of data and report these data in APA format.
