Purpose: For students interested in pursuing public health and transferring to a four-year institution or gaining personal enrichment.

Additional Program Requirements

A grade of C or better in all Public Health Professions Core Requirements is required to progress in the program. Please note this program requires completion of a service learning assignment/general community service project (PBH 203 ). Students may also be required to complete a criminal background check.

Computer Competency Requirement


All students in associate degree programs must demonstrate competence in computing and information technology (a computer competency requirement ). Students may satisfy the computer competency course requirement simultaneously as they satisfy the computer technology general education course or with an elective.

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • Describe the fundamental tenets of epidemiology as applied to public health.
  • Discuss Healthy People 20/20 in relation to public health planning.
  • Delineate the specific professions and contributions to the public health model.
  • Analyze health statistics related to targeting unhealthy behaviors and planning strategies for improvement.
  • Analyze behaviorist theory in relation to the development of health betterment planning.
  • Develop basic strategies for health improvement.
