Additional Program Requirements

Completion of the required courses with grade of C or better in each course.

Purpose: The Transfer Studies certificate is for students whose educational goal is to transfer and who wish a general background in transferable general educational foundational courses. This certificate offers a set of introductory courses designed to meet the baccalaureate requirements of the transfer university and facilitate a more seamless transfer. Credits earned for the certificate may be applied to the Associate of Arts degree in Transfer Studies.

Special Conditions


Financial Aid: This program has not been approved by the U.S. Department of Education for eligibility for federal student aid. Students enrolled in this program may not be eligible to receive financial aid from the U.S. Department of Education (Pell Grants, SEOG, Federal Work-Study, Direct Loans or PLUS loans) or the Maryland Higher Educations Commission (Educational Assistance Grants, Senatorial Scholarships or Delegate Scholarships). Certificate Graduation Requirements


To graduate with a certificate, students must have demonstrated eligibility for ENG 111  or ENG 115 .  See Academic Regulations for all Graduation Requirements.  

Certificate Requirements: 31-40 credits


An approved list of general education courses can be found in the General Education Requirements and degree program required courses  section of the catalog. Choose general education courses from the following topics:

English: 3-6 credits


Arts and Humanities and Social and Behavioral Sciences: 9 credits


Choose three courses from two of the general education groupings.

Biological and Physical Sciences: 7-8 credits


At least one lab science required. See General Education Biological and Physical Sciences Requirements  for a list of approved courses.

Computer Technology: 4 credits


See General Education Computer Technology Requirements  for a list of approved courses.

Mathematics: 3-4 credits


See General Education Mathematics Requirements  for a list of approved courses.

Electives (with approval of advisor): 6-9 credits


Due to a variety of transfer requirements at four-year schools, students should consult with an academic advisor or with their transfer school before choosing their electives.
