About the State of Maryland: General Education Requirements

The Annotated Code of Maryland Title 13B standards    require that a program of study leading to the  A.A., A.A.T., A.S. or A.S.E. degrees at Maryland community colleges to include no less than 30 credits of required general education core courses, with the core requiring at a minimum, course work in Arts and Humanities, Biological and Physical Sciences, English Composition, Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Mathematics categories.

The Annotated Code of Maryland Title 13B standards    require that a program of study leading to the A.A.S. degree to include no less than 20 credits of required core general education course work taken from the same five areas required of the A.A., A.A.T., A.S. and A.S.E.

Effective with the start of the Fall 2017 term, students must complete one course in English composition with a grade of C or better.  Students who met this English composition requirement in a term prior to Fall 2017 may follow the previous State of Maryland  General Education Requirements (Annotated Code of Maryland Title 13B standards) regarding English composition.

All AACC associates degrees require that students meet the State of Maryland standards.
