DAN 206 - Intermediate Tap Dance 2

2 credit hours - One hour of lecture and two hours of studio weekly; one term.
Continue intermediate study of technical fundamentals of tap dance. This course will further challenge students with more complex single, double and triple sounds, and combinations including rhythm tap. May be repeated once for a total of four credit hours.

Prerequisite(s): DAN 205  or permission of department chair.

Note: Typically offered at MC; fall and spring terms.

Course Outcomes:
 

  • Demonstrate ability to increase tap vocabulary
    • Further develop skills in specific tap dance steps/moves
    • Demonstrate use of syncopation
    • Practice and perfect double and triple time tempo of standard tap steps/moves
  • Perform challenging rhythm tap combinations and time signatures
    • Combine steps and incorporate turning and directional changes
    • Demonstrate irregular rhythms
    • Create your own rhythm without the use of outside music
  • Perform tap movement while turning and moving through space
    • Execute standard tap movements while turning through space
    • Broaden the use of space while tapping… perform the steps bigger and smaller
  • Increase knowledge of tap dance history and it’s social and cultural contributions.
    • Discuss the history of tap dance… where and when it started and why
    • Discuss a select number of tap “pioneers” and their impact on society
    • Discuss the cultural input and it’s impact on tap dance
