 |   LGS 112 - Law Office Practice and Technology3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term.This course meets the Technology Requirement.
 
 Explore the technology that enhances law office management processes and procedures and supports the modern-day practice of law. Gain hands-on experience with software related to case management, timekeeping and billing, docket control, electronic discovery (e-discovery), marketing via the Internet and computer–aided report preparation and presentations. Lab fee $25.
 
 Prerequisite(s): Grade of C or better in LGS 111 .
 
 Note: Typically offered at MC and OL; fall and spring terms.
 
 Course Outcomes:
 Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
 1.  Describe ethical responsibilities in attracting and serving clients, including solicitation, competence, confidentiality and conflicts of interest; 2.  Identify and use software commonly used in law firms; 3.  Complete a timesheet for billable and non-billable time; prepare management reports based on timekeeping records; 4.  Discuss on-line tools and resources for the law firm, including researching and marketing; 5.  Discuss docket control procedure and set up a tickler system; 6.  Explain essential considerations of records management, including document maintenance and electronic filing systems; 7.  Organize a client file and describe the procedures for opening, closing, retaining and retrieving the file; and 8. Display critical thinking skills in analyzing problems, conducting fundamental legal research to solve the problems.
