MAS 213 - Advanced Massage Therapy6 credit hours - 60 hours of lecture, 60 hours of lab, 10 hours of clinic; one term. Formerly MAS 113 Advanced Massage Techniques
Learn advanced techniques in soft tissue manipulation. Utilize creative and integrative problem-solving skills through client-assessment and practical applications. Examine and perform techniques necessary for myofascial massage, pregnancy massage and oncology massage, and massage in health care settings. Lab fee $60.
Prerequisite(s): A grade of C or better in MAS 111 .
Corequisite(s): MAS 220 .
Note: Typically offered at MC; fall, spring, and summer terms.
Course Outcomes:
- Apply myofascial massage techniques as part of a massage therapy session.
- Discuss ethical issues as they relate to massage therapy.
- Discuss diversity, equity, inclusion and cultural competency for the massage therapist.
- Recognize cautions and contraindications and demonstrate techniques for pregnancy massage and oncology massage.
- Discuss acute pathology, medical devices and environmental considerations and practice performing massage therapy in a simulated hospital setting
- Apply assessment tools and techniques to develop a client-centered massage therapy session.
