MAS 213 - Advanced Massage Therapy

6 credit hours - 60 hours of lecture, 60 hours of lab, 10 hours of clinic; one term.
Formerly MAS 113 Advanced Massage Techniques

Learn advanced techniques in soft tissue manipulation. Utilize creative and integrative problem-solving skills through client-assessment and practical applications. Examine and perform techniques necessary for myofascial massage, pregnancy massage and oncology massage, and massage in health care settings. Lab fee $60.

Prerequisite(s): A grade of C or better in MAS 111 .

Corequisite(s): MAS 220 .

Note: Typically offered at MC; fall, spring, and summer terms.

Course Outcomes:

  1. Apply myofascial massage techniques as part of a massage therapy session.
  2. Discuss ethical issues as they relate to massage therapy.
  3. Discuss diversity, equity, inclusion and cultural competency for the massage therapist.
  4. Recognize cautions and contraindications and demonstrate techniques for pregnancy massage and oncology massage.
  5. Discuss acute pathology, medical devices and environmental considerations and practice performing massage therapy in a simulated hospital setting
  6. Apply assessment tools and techniques to develop a client-centered massage therapy session.
