THA 135 - Applied Theater1 credit hour - One hour of individual instruction weekly; one term. Receive individualized instruction in theater for either the actor, designer or technician. Course may be repeated for a total of 3 credits. Lab fee $100.
Prerequisite(s): THA 121 or THA 122 or THA 132 or permission of department chair.
Note: Typically offered at MC; fall and spring terms.
Course Outcomes:
- Assess acting strengths and weaknesses.
- Evaluate vocal range, strength, flexibility.
- Accept evaluation offered by instructor/ tutor.
- Evaluate physical range, strength, flexibility.
- Accept evaluation of instructor/ tutor.
- Evaluate ability to analyze both characters and plays.
- Examine prior success with texts of varying style and tone.
- Develop proficiency in exercises which strengthen performance weaknesses.
- Develop a varied repertoire of strength-building exercises.
- Develop endurance in personal workout.
- Develop self-evaluation skills to measure improvement.
- Select monologues for development that showcase casting potential.
- Increase knowledge of available texts.
- Work with instructor to locate competitive audition materials.
- Self-evaluate performance strength to select showcase cuttings.
- Develop a character in rehearsal or prepare new selections for public performance.
- Understand the super objective of the play and the objective of the character.
- Build believable physical/ vocal characteristics.
- Develop layers of characterization.
- Polish performance for audience enjoyment.
- Develop (or enhance) audition portfolio suited to personal performance goals.
- Find contrasting selections to include in portfolio.
- Find currently successful audition selections to develop.
- Prepare or revise resume.
- Edit background experience to provide successful resume.
