MAT 034 - Quantitative Foundations4 equivalent hours - Four hours weekly; one term. Study foundational algebraic and numeric topics essential in preparing students for MAT 135 or MAT 100 or MAT 133 . Explore topics involving quantitative relationships, algebraic reasoning, functional reasoning, and probabilistic and statistical reasoning. Incorporate problem-solving skills, quantitative communication skills, and the use of technology. Lab fee $15.
Prerequisite(s): Achieve an appropriate score on the Mathematics Placement Test, or successful completion of an approved mathematics preparation course.
Note: A grade of at least C in MAT 034 is required to enroll in MAT 100 , MAT 133 , MAT 135 or MAT 135H .
Either MAT 034 or MAT 035 serves as a prerequisite for MAT 135 or MAT 135H . Students should enroll in only one of MAT 034 or MAT 035 .

- Interpret the results of solved systems of two equations in an appropriate manner.
- Recognize whether a linear or non-linear mathematical model is appropriate.
- Use the appropriate linear or non-linear model to represent the relationships between variables.
- Summarize and interpret data using graphs, tables, technology, and statistics (including measures of central tendencies and dispersion).
- Collect appropriate data to make reasonable conclusions by employing appropriate numeric and algebraic concepts.
