EDU 231 - Infant/Toddler Child Care3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. Examine the philosophy of infant and toddler education with basic child development theory that focuses on the physical, emotional, social and cognitive development of children from birth through 3 years of age. Explore the infant/toddler curriculum, select age-appropriate materials and methods and create effective infant/toddler child care programs.

Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Identify patterns in the physical, emotional, social, language, and cognitive development of infants and toddlers.
2. Discuss both historical, and current trends in infant/toddler childcare.
3. Describe the importance of caregiver-child interactions in infant/toddler development.
4. Analyze the appropriateness of equipment and materials used in the infant/toddler environment.
5. Design appropriate, relationship-based activities that support the growth of a variety of developmental needs for infants and toddlers.
6. Examine strategies for developing positive caregiver-parent-child relationships within a diverse childcare environment.
