HEA 115 - Health Implications of Violence3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. Formerly Personal Safety Issues
This course meets the Wellness Requirement.
Examine theories and concepts of violence and abuse and the effects on the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of the individual. Describe and evaluate the historical overview of legal and ethical issues regarding violence and abuse and the impact on the individual and society. Explore topics including awareness and prevention of violence around the world, neglect, gun control, exploitation, stalking, and personal safety issues.

Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Discuss the historical background and impact of violence on human rights.
- Discuss various forms of violence, their global impact, and their influence on public health.
- Explain the relationship between violence and abuse related to human development.
- Interpret and evaluate research, data, and theoretical concepts related to violence, abuse, and personal safety issues.
- Describe the legal system, interventions, and resources available for the individual and society.
