MDC 103 - Introduction to ICD Coding3 credit hours - Three hours lecture weekly; one term Formerly HIT 217 - Introduction to ICD Coding
Learn the basic coding guidelines using the current ICD coding classification system. Apply diagnostic and procedural codes, validating coding accuracy using clinical information found in the health record. Apply and promote ethical coding standards while adhering to current regulations and established guidelines in code assignment.
Prerequisite(s): Acceptance into the Medical Coding Certificate Program or permission of the program coordinator.
Corequisite(s): MDC 101 and MDC 105 (formerly HIT 218).

- Correctly navigate the ICD-10-CM & PCS manual
- Identify the principal diagnosis
