HRM 256 - Hotel Property Management

3 credit hours - 45 hours of lecture.
Examine property management concerns for hotels including operational areas like housekeeping, security, risk management and maintenance. Special emphasis is given to hotel front office procedures and hospitality technology and other areas of study include an introduction to labor relations, retention, departmental budgeting, feasibility studies, supply management and business forecasting.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1.    Describe the role and function of every major department within a hotel property, specifically as it relates to guest services, hotel efficiency and guest satisfaction.
2.    Describe the historical development of the hotel industry in the United States, including the role of some of the industry pioneers.
3.    Explain the purpose of varied reports and statistical methods of forecasting used to assist management in daily operations and managerial decision-making.
4.    Analyze the major challenges facing hotel managers today as they relate to the competition, employee challenges, and economy and consumer demands.
5.    Utilize information research skills using library resources and reference books.
