LGS 171 - Tort Law

3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term.
Familiarizes students with all aspects of tort law. Topics include intentional torts, negligent torts, defenses, joint tort feasors and strict liability. Lab fee $12.

Prerequisite or Corequisite: LGS 111 , LGS 253  or BPA 253.

Note: Typically offered at MC and OL; fall, spring, and summer terms.

Course Outcomes:
Upon conclusion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Identify intentional torts to the person and property.
  2. Explain defenses to intentional torts.
  3. Recognize negligence, its defenses, and causation issues.
  4. Identify duties owed by owners of land to various categories of people.
  5. Describe strict liability and product liability issues.
