MDA 100 - Introduction to Medical Terminology1 credit hour - One hour weekly; one term. Learn basic medical terminology, including prefixes, suffixes and word roots as they relate to body systems and associated pathological conditions.

Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Utilize medical terminology components to build words
- Recognize word parts, such as prefixes, suffixes and roots words to determine word meaning
- Utilize medical terminology word parts, such as prefixes, suffixes, and root words to build words, change context of medical terms, and breakdown medical terms
- Interpret medical histories, and other medically related literature
- Analyze legal medical documents, such as: history and physicals, laboratory reports, pathology reports, consultative reports, and discharge summaries
- Verify physicians orders and other data pertinent to patient/client care
- Apply terminology to specific disease processes that affect organ systems
- Analyze word roots and the application of prefixes, suffixes and combining forms used to define illness, diseases or conditions
- Articulate medical terms related to treatment modalities for specific body system disorders and diseases
- Apply learned concepts to specific pathologies of interest.
- Correlates medical terms to system pathology, such as kidneys and dialysis, muscular system and muscle atrophy
- States correct medical term relating to body system and specific pathological process
