LGS 216 - Criminal Evidence and Procedure

3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term.
Study key issues relating to criminal procedure including an examination of the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Eighth Amendments of the United States Constitution. Examine the rules of evidence including concepts such as relevancy, witnesses, hearsay, chain of custody and the trial process with a focus on procedure in Maryland courts.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Identify key constitutional principles associated with the criminal trial process.
  2. Identify the various stages of the trial process.
  3. Identify the rules of evidence and be able to identify which exceptions apply to those rules.
  4. Define hearsay and explain the exceptions.
  5. Complete a warrant application.
