PTA 150 - Functional Anatomy for the Physical Therapist Assistant1 credit hour - Two hours lecture and 28 hours of college laboratory; one term. Bridge content and learning from human anatomy & physiology coursework to kinesiology coursework. Students will participate in both hands-on learning activities and interactive Internet links to promote basic knowledge of bone, muscle, and joint anatomy and physiology. From that knowledge, students will develop an understanding of how anatomy and physiology relate to function. Lab fee $25.

Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Apply bone, muscle, and joint anatomy and function to common daily activities.
- Describe human movement terminology and types of motion
- Describe joint structures and their purpose
- Demonstrate the action line of muscles of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle using a tactile aid
- Identify major bones and landmarks of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle
- Identify the origin, insertion, and action of all muscles that affect the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle joints
- Describe the type of muscle function occurring in various basic therapeutic exercises
- Describe the function of skeletal muscle
- Describe concentric, eccentric, and isometric muscle action and the role of gravity
- Describe kinematic chains and their implication towards physical therapy
- Identify muscles of action for joint motion at the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle
