RAD 121 - Radiographic Procedures 2

5 credit hours - Three hours of lecture and four hours of college laboratory weekly; one term.
Review and perform intermediate level radiographic exams to include the spinal column, bony thorax, fluoroscopic procedures, and headwork. Display competency of intermediate radiologic technology concepts, principles and skills of radiographic procedures with a focus on populations such as pediatric, geriatric and trauma patients during supervised lab sessions. Lab fee $250.

Prerequisite(s): RAD 110 , RAD 111 , and RAD 112  with grades of C or better.

Corequisite(s): RAD 122  and RAD 123 .

Course Outcomes:
At the completion of the course, the student will:

1.    Identify and manipulate radiographic equipment and technical factors used for radiographic procedures.

2.    Identify the contrast media used in radiography of the digestive system and describe proper administration of various types of contrast media.

3.    Demonstrate safe radiation practices for the patient, self, and others.

4.    Properly demonstrate positioning a patient for radiographic examinations on pediatric, geriatric and trauma patients.

5.    Properly demonstrate positioning a patient for radiographic procedures of the vertebral column, gastrointestinal system, genitourinary system, arthrography, bony thorax, and headwork within reasonable time limits with proficiency. 

6.    Apply an effective critique method for radiographic images.

7.    Apply problem-solving/critical thinking skills and cultural diversity skills in patient care management scenarios.
