STM 213 - Professional Skills for STEM

1 credit hour - Ten hours lecture and five hours directed lab; one term.
Formerly STM 103 - Core Skills for STEM 3

Develop or refresh skills and knowledge required for technical positions within Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) fields. Focus upon professionalism and critical thinking skills essential to academic and workplace success.

Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of 12 credit hours of MEC, EET or CTS courses or permission of engineering department chair.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Build a resume that highlights strengths and skills as they relate to a job position description.

2. Plan and organize a job search using various resources to evaluate job requirements and their relationship to one’s experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

3. Project a professional image throughout the hiring process.

4. Explain general business expectations of employee confidentiality, privacy, workplace safety, and teamwork.

5. Investigate strategies and techniques to increase efficiency in the workplace.
