SPA 200 - Advanced Review of Spanish Grammar for Native Speakers3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. A review of the essentials of Spanish grammar for students who speak Spanish as their primary language. Designed for students who have studied Spanish in a school setting and who wish to improve their written and oral skills in standard, academic Spanish.
Prerequisite(s): Permission of department chair.
Course Outcomes: - Demonstrate correct usage of Standard Spanish.
- Use specific vocabulary to discuss parts of the sentence.
- Discuss and use different verb forms.
- Use direct and indirect object pronouns.
- Use adjectives and adverbs correctly.
- Explain and use the subjunctive versus indicative moods.
- Describe and use the phonologic system.
- Describe the sounds made by individual letters.
- Describe and use diphthongs and triphthongs.
- Describe word stress and the use of accent marks.
- Describe syllable division.
- Describe and use the orthographic system.
- Spell words correctly.
- Write using proper punctuation.
- Write using correct capitalization.
- Spell numbers correctly.
- Discuss elements of Latino culture.
- Discuss the history of the Spanish language in the Spanish-speaking world.
- Discuss the history and evolution of the Latino community in the United States.
- Discuss representative works of literature written by Latinos.
