PSY 111H - Introduction to Psychology - Honors

3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term.
This is an honors course.

This course meets the Social & Behavioral Sciences General Education Requirement.

Explore the science of psychology and how psychological research applies to aspects of everyday life. Topics include biological basis of behavior, cognition, memory, development, learning, mental health, and our interactions with others.

Prerequisite(s): Eligibility for Honors courses.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Explain basic psychological concepts.
Apply psychological principals to personal and professional growth, and other aspects of everyday life.
Evaluate psychological research, draw logical and objective conclusions from it, and assess whether research was conducted ethically.
Investigate changes in psychological research, recognizing that psychological science relies on empirical evidence adapting as new data develop.
Use psychological research to support or discredit statements, opinions, or beliefs related to psychological themes.
Recognize that our diverse psychological, biological, social, and cultural factors influence mental processes and behavior, and that we filter information through an imperfect personal lens.
