GER 225 - Modern German Civilization and Culture 13 credit hours - Three hours lecture weekly; one term. Study the culture and civilization of German-speaking Europe from the Enlightenment to the early twentieth century. Develop reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Taught in German.
Prerequisite(s): GER 212 or four years of high school German or permission of department chair.
Note: Not for native speakers.
Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Explain in general terms the history of Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and other German-speaking territories through World War 1.
- Describe aspects of the arts in German-speaking Europe in the 18th, 19th, and early 20th century.
- Describe German-language societies and cultures in the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries.
- Present information, concepts, and ideas to inform, explain, persuade, and narrate a variety of topics related to German-speaking cultures.
